We’ve got exciting news! Our friend and former Executive Vice President Sarah Rose has been selected to return to CLCV and its sister organization, the CLCV Education Fund, to serve as Chief Executive Officer.
Current CEO Warner Chabot will step down at the end of March in order to focus on other opportunities. While colleagues at CLCV, Warner and Sarah oversaw the 2010 election of the strongest top-of-the-ticket environmental champions in the organization’s 40-year history—while simultaneously working to defeat one of the most anti-environmental initiatives in state history: the oil industry-funded Prop 23 to repeal California’s landmark clean energy and climate law.
Rick Zbur, Chair of the CLCV Board of Directors:
“On behalf of CLCV’s Board, staff and members, I’m thrilled that Sarah Rose is returning to head up our important mission of electing environmental champions and holding them accountable to the environmental agenda. Sarah brings not just her unparalleled expertise in electing the best environmental leaders to statewide office, but also the brilliant strategic, political and collaborative skills necessary to lead CLCV to the next level of effectiveness.
During his successful tenure as CLCV’s Chief Executive Officer, Warner Chabot ushered in an era of greater collaboration between California’s environmental groups and other stakeholders, including the labor and business communities. We at CLCV are grateful to have benefited from Warner’s leadership and we look forward to working with him in the next stage of his impressive career.”
Sarah Rose, incoming CEO of CLCV:
“Having held senior leadership positions at CLCV for over 15 years, I’m excited to return to an organization I know and love, in this challenging and rewarding new leadership role and in one of the most competitive election years in California history. I join CLCV’s Board and staff in thanking Warner Chabot for his tremendous leadership and in wishing him all the best in his future endeavors on behalf of California’s environment.”
Warner Chabot, outgoing CEO of CLCV:
“I’m proud of the work of CLCV’s staff and Board and proud to have worked with them for three exciting years. California provides the model for the U.S. to follow on so many bold and important environmental initiatives, thanks in large part to the champions we elect to the state legislature and the governorship. In this watershed election year, I believe the team at CLCV, under Sarah Rose’s extraordinary leadership, will change the course of history by electing the next generation of courageous leaders who will ensure a healthy environment for future generations.”
State Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg:
“The legislature is grateful for the leadership that Warner Chabot and CLCV have provided on the issues that make California a national leader on the environment. Warner Chabot and Sarah Rose are both respected veterans of California’s environmental movement, having worked together successfully on some of the most important battles to protect our environment in California history. As a result, there’s no one more prepared to step into this leadership role than Sarah Rose.”
Sarah Rose most recently worked with the Western Conservation Foundation, a public charity that gives grants to non-profits working to build leaders to protect the West’s land, air, and water. Previously she worked for more than 15 years for CLCV, first as Political Director and ultimately as Executive Vice President, overseeing CLCV’s electoral work along with its collaboration with the wider environmental community on legislative priorities.
Warner Chabot has managed successful regional, state, and national campaigns to elect progressive candidates and achieve landmark environmental laws and policies for more than thirty years. Chabot came to CLCV and the CLCV Education Fund from the Ocean Conservancy, where he served as Vice President for Campaign Strategies and, previously, as Vice President for Regional Operations.
